The Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF) and the Africa Vision Tract House Society (AVTHS), in partnership with Maranatha Specialist Mission Hospital, Aba, conducted a free evangelical medical mission in Aba from 2–6 December 2013. Following the last-minute suspension of the Rwanda Medical Mission, resources were redirected to Aba, allowing the mission to expand beyond eye care to include multiple medical departments.
The Medical Mission achieved the following outcomes:
i. 2,576 inhabitants of Aba and surrounding communities registered for the mission.
ii. 2,414 patients received free medical care.
iii. 913 eye patients were seen, and 557 eyeglasses were dispensed for sight and reading.
iv. 86 surgical operations were performed, including 10 fibroid surgeries and 63 eye surgeries.
v. 652 laboratory tests were conducted.
vi. 1,087 patients received services from the pharmacy.
vii. 1,458 patients received spiritual counselling.
viii. 100 Holy Bibles and 68,000 gospel tracts were distributed.
ix. 290 individuals made decisions for Jesus Christ during the mission.
We thank God for the success of this outreach and acknowledge the partnership of Maranatha Specialist Mission Hospital, Aba, the dedication of all medical personnel, volunteers, and counsellors, and the cooperation of the Aba community, which ensured the smooth and effective execution of the programme.
