The Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF), Yenagoa, in collaboration with St. Peter’s Anglican Church, conducted a medical mission to the Igbedi Community, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, as part of the Church’s centenary celebrations. The outreach was designed to provide free medical care, counselling, and evangelistic services to the community.
The Medical Mission took place in two phases:
Phase 1 – Thursday, 27 June 2013:
A 13-member team from NCGF Yenagoa visited Igbedi Community to render free medical services. The team brought clothing, shoes, free drugs, Bibles, and gospel tracts for distribution.
Over 100 people received medical attention.
Over 80 individuals made decisions for Christ during the outreach.
Feeding and logistics were managed by St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
Access to the community involved both road travel and a 20-minute speedboat ride.
Phase 2 – Friday, 5 July 2013:
A follow-up visit lasted approximately 5 hours, focusing on routine eye care provided by Optometrist Dr. John.
29 patients were attended to, receiving routine checkups, prescriptions, and free drugs.
1 eyeglass was dispensed, while 14 others were recommended for reading glasses, to be provided free of charge with the assistance of Chief Duncan Eke.
Several patients were referred for cataract and glaucoma surgeries at medical facilities in Yenagoa due to equipment limitations at the community health centre.
Normal registration, counselling, and drug administration were carried out.
Over half of the patients in this visit made decisions for Christ.
The community expressed joy and gratitude over both visits, and the mission successfully combined medical care, evangelism, and social support.
We give God the glory for the success of this outreach and appreciate the partnership of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, the dedication of the NCGF Yenagoa team, and the cooperation of the Igbedi Community, which contributed to the smooth execution of the programme.
