The Africa Vision Tract House Society (AVTHS) was represented by Dr. Iheanyi Uwaoma and Pastor Polycarp Mbah in an invitational Medical Mission to Abuomega Community, Bekwara LGA, and Kakwalaka Community, Obanliku, all in Obudu Province, Cross River State, from 6 to 9 June 2019.
The mission was organised by E3 Partners, USA, with AVTHS contributing personnel and a portion of the drugs dispensed during the outreach. The programme provided an opportunity to assess and respond to the healthcare and spiritual needs of the communities.
Although the final statistics are still being analysed by E3 Partners, the AVTHS team observed a very high disease burden among the residents, with a notable prevalence of schistosomiasis and filariasis. Blindness affects people across all ages and sexes, highlighting the urgent need for government and WHO intervention to reduce disease incidence and improve the quality of life and productivity of the local population.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve these communities and pray for sustained support from partners, volunteers, and agencies to address the critical healthcare challenges observed during the mission.
