The Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF) and the Africa Vision Tract House (AVTHS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Conference of Christian Medical and Dental Students (NCCMDS), University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, conducted a free medical mission at the Primary Health Centre and Primary School in Iwo Eto, Etinan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, from 23–26 September 2010. The outreach was organised to provide quality medical care, counselling, and social services to the rural community while sharing the love of Christ.
The three-day outreach mobilised a team of approximately 70 medical students, 20 medical doctors and health personnel, as well as pharmacists, evangelists, pastors, and social workers. Together, the team delivered comprehensive medical, counselling, and social support services to residents of Iwo Eto and surrounding communities.
The Medical Mission achieved the following outcomes:
i. Provision of drugs, medical supplies, counsellors, and media coverage for the outreach.
ii. Distribution of 200 Holy Bibles and gospel tracts in Efik, Ibibio, and English languages.
iii. Over 2,000 residents received medical care across various specialities, including general medicine, eye care, and surgery.
iv. 45 patients, including children, underwent surgical procedures for conditions such as hernias, appendicitis, lipomas, and other ailments.
v. About 120 eye cases were recorded, and over 80 eyeglasses were dispensed.
vi. Distribution of new and used clothes, shoes, and bags to community members.
vii. Outreach visits to secondary schools within the locality.
viii. Organisation of film shows and a crusade as part of the evangelistic activities.
ix. Over 100 individuals made decisions for Christ during the outreach.
We thank God for the success of the mission and appreciate the commitment of NCCMDS, the volunteers, and all partners who contributed resources, time, and expertise. We also acknowledge the cooperation of the Iwo Eto community, whose support facilitated the smooth execution of the programme.
