ABAKALIKI MEDICAL MISSION 2011

The Medical Mission to Ebonyi State, tagged “Ministering to the Whole Man,” was conducted at two locations—Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area and Okpuitumo in Abakaliki Local Government Area—from 22–28 May 2011. The outreach was organised to provide free medical care, counselling, and social support while sharing the gospel with residents of the host communities.

The seven-day rural outreach mobilised a team comprising 5 medical students from the Nigeria Conference of Christian Medical and Dental Students (NCCMDS), Ebonyi State University, 5 NCGF/AVTHS medical doctors and health personnel, as well as pharmacists, evangelists, pastors, and social workers. Together, the team delivered comprehensive medical, counselling, and social services across the two locations.

The Medical Mission achieved the following outcomes:

i. Over 2,000 people received medical attention during the outreach.

ii. Fifty-six (56) patients underwent free surgical operations, including procedures for

, lipomas, appendicitis, and cataract removal.

iii. Over 150 eyeglasses for sight and reading were dispensed after diagnosis.

iv. Distribution of 300 Holy Bibles (200 in English and 100 in Igbo).

v. Distribution of 90,000 gospel tracts in Igbo and English languages.

vi. Evening film shows and crusades were held throughout the outreach, mainly coordinated by the Glorious Movement for Mission Foundation, Aba.

vii. The activities and impact of the mission were reported in Compass Newspaper and broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

We thank God for the success of the mission and appreciate all partners, volunteers, and supporting organisations whose commitment and resources made the outreach possible. We also acknowledge the cooperation of the host communities, which contributed to the smooth and effective execution of the programme.
