IKONO MEDICAL MISSION 2011

The Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF) and the Africa Vision Tract House Society (AVTHS) conducted a Medical Mission to the Itak–Ikot Akpandem community in Ikono Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, from Wednesday, 28 September to Saturday, 1 October 2011. Team members and volunteers arrived in Uyo on Tuesday, 27 September 2011, to commence field preparations for the outreach.

A 78-member team comprising NCGF/AVTHS members, ministers, and volunteers provided comprehensive medical, social, and evangelistic services to the community throughout the mission period.

The Medical Mission achieved the following outcomes:

i. A total of 1,186 patients received medical treatment.

ii. 762 patients were attended to for general medical cases.

iii. 340 patients received eye care consultations.

iv. 240 eyeglasses for sight and reading were dispensed after comprehensive eye examinations.

v. Fifty (50) patients underwent surgical procedures conducted by consultant surgeons and obstetrician/gynaecologists.

vi. Skills acquisition workshops in fish farming and soap making were organised for youths in the community.

vii. On the evangelistic front, 377 individuals made decisions for Jesus Christ.

viii. A multidisciplinary team of 78 personnel delivered services across medical, social, and evangelistic units. We thank God for the success of the mission and appreciate the dedication of all team members, volunteers, and partners whose efforts made the outreach impactful. We also acknowledge the cooperation and hospitality of the Itak–Ikot Akpandem community, which contributed to the smooth execution of the programme.
