The Africa Vision Tract House Society (AVTHS) and the Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF), in collaboration with Pro-Health International, missionary groups, IFES personnel from Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, and local churches in Guinea-Bissau, conducted a six-day medical mission from 5–13 November 2011 across four locations in Bissau. The outreach was organised to provide quality medical care and share the gospel with residents of the host communities.
A 42-member team (excluding local Guinea-Bissau participants) comprising missionaries and professionals from several countries—27 Nigerians, 1 Sierra Leonean, 1 Liberian, 1 Ghanaian, 1 Cameroonian, and 11 Gambians—served across the mission sites in partnership with local believers.
The Medical Mission achieved the following outcomes:
i. Over 1,500 residents of Bissau received free, comprehensive medical care, including major surgeries, ophthalmological procedures, and dental treatments and extractions.
ii. Over 250 eyeglasses for sight and reading were dispensed after examinations.
iii. Distribution of 150 Holy Bibles and over 5,000 gospel tracts in Portuguese Creole and English.
iv. About 1,300 patients received counselling during the outreach.
v. Many participants made decisions for Christ as a result of the evangelistic engagements.
vi. The mission was successfully implemented across four locations in Bissau through strong collaboration with local churches, IFES personnel, and international partners.
vii. The diverse, multinational team ensured effective service delivery across medical and evangelistic units.
We thank God for the success of the mission and for the numerous testimonies that have followed, which affirm the impact of the outreach across medical, spiritual, and social dimensions. We also appreciate all partners, missionaries, and local churches whose commitment and cooperation made the Guinea-Bissau mission possible.
